Stadium series finishes with records numbers

On Sunday the 2024 Stadium Series wrapped up the two game weekend event. The series was two outdoor regular season games played by the Philadelphia Flyers against the New Jersey devils on Saturday and the New York Rangers against the New York Islanders on Sunday. This is the first time since 2016 that two games were scheduled as part of the same series. This will also mark the fifth time the NHL has staged any outdoor games on consecutive days

A total of 150,018 fans attended across both days with Saturday drawing 70,058 people and Sunday bringing 79,690 fans. The attendance on Sunday set a record as the third most attended outdoor NHL event in history falling just behind the 2014 Winter Classic (#1) and 2020 Winter Classic (#2).

The Rangers beat the Islanders 6-5 in overtime Sunday and the Devils beat the Flyers 6-3 on Saturday.

Hoglander fined maximum

Vancouver’s Nils Hoglander has been fined $2,864.58, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for high-sticking Detroit’s Jake Walman.

Binnington fined maximum

St. Louis’ Jordan Binnington was fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for high-sticking Nashville’s Luke Evangelista.

Islanders to host 2026 All-Star game

It was announced on Sunday that the New York Islanders would be hosting the 2026 NHL All-Star game. The games will be held at UBS arena.

PWHL breaks attendance record

The PWHL’s first home game in Toronto at Scotiabank Arena set a women’s hockey record crowd. 19,285 fans were in attendance to watch Toronto beat Montreal 3-0.

Penguins retire Jagr’s number

On Sunday, in front of 18,422 fans the Pittsburgh Penguins retired Jaromir Jagr’s number from the franchise. Jagr’s number, 68, is only the third to be retired in franchise history. Jagr joins Michel Brière (#21) and Mario Lemieux (#66).

Yesterday the 52 year-old Jaromir Jagr practiced at the Lemieux Sports Complex on Saturday with the Pittsburgh Penguins in advance of the retirement ceremony.

The Penguins were the team that originally drafted him in 1990 as the fifth overall pick. He played 806 of his total 1,733 NHL games with the penguins. During those 806 games, he scored 439 goals and 640 assists adding up to 1,079 points and setting a record of 4th in franchise history for all three of those categories.
