Rielly suspended 5 games

Toronto’s Morgan Rielly has been suspended 5 games for an illegal cross-check to the head of Ottawa’s Ridly Greig. The incident occured after Greig scored an empty net goal with 5 seconds remaining in the game. After taking a slapshot to put the puck in the net, Rielly took exception. Rielly was assessed a match penalty.

Rielly has been neither fined nor suspended in is 769 game NHL career.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Rielly will forfeit $195,312.50. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.raph

PWHL makes first trade in league history

The Professional Women’s Hockey League executed its first trade in league history on Super Bowl Sunday. Boston sent Sophie Jaques who was the 10th overall pick to Minnesota and recieved Susanna Tapani and Abby Cook. Jacques had been originally signed a three-year contract.

Kessel working out for Canucks

Phil Kessel will be working out this week in Abbotsford, BC which houses the Canucks’ minor league AHL affiliate team the Abbotsford Canucks. The three time Stanley Cup champion has been without a contract so with Vancouver showing interest, it could be a good fit for him.

Zadorov suspended 2 games

Vancouver’s Nikita Zadorov was suspended 2 games for an illegal check to the head of Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond. Zadorov has been neither fined nor suspended in his 615 game NHL career.

The incident occurred at 4:07 in the second period. Zadorov was assessed a match penalty.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Zadorov will forfeit $39,062.50. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
