Parker Kelly suspended 2 games
Ottawa Senators forward Parker Kelly was suspended without pay for two games for an illegal check to the head against Los Angeles Kings defenseman Andreas Englund. Kelly was assessed a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head with 3:35 left in the Senatorsâ 4-3 overtime loss in Los Angeles on Thursday night. The suspension will cost Kelly $7,943. He has six goals and seven assists in 61 games this season. He has not been fined or suspended before in his NHL career.
Flames retire number 34
The Calgary Flames honored Miikka Kiprusoff by retiring his number 34. During his nine seasons with the Flames, Kiprusoff became their all-time leader among goaltenders in wins (305), shutouts (41), goals against average (2.46), and save percentage (.913). The emotional ceremony featured standing ovations, chants of "Kipper! Kipper! Kipper!", and culminated in his jersey being raised to the rafters. Kiprusoff joins Lanny McDonald (9), Jarome Iginla (12), and Mike Vernon (30) as the fourth Flames player and the seventh Finnish-born NHL player to receive this honor.
