Devils fire head coach
The New Jersey Devils announced Monday they are relieving head coach Lindy Ruff of his coaching duties. Travis Green, one of the assistant coaches, has been named interim for the remainder of the season. The announcement was made by General Manager Tom Fitzgerald with just over 20 games remaining in their season.
The Devils are currently ranked 21st in the league and is fighting for a wild card spot which is growing out of reach. Ruff had been the head coach for 4 seasons.
I hold our entire organization to the highest levels of accountability to focus on being a competitive team that expects to be a perennial playoff contender. Unfortunately, we are not currently at that level, and I needed to make this decision. This was an extremely difficult conversation to have with Lindy based on the relationship that he and I have. He was the right coach to develop our young players on the ice, and above all else, he is a tremendous person.”
